A problem portrayed in a light hearted way. For some, being in a closed room is their end comfort…the seer. For others, an open room is their convenience…the living. This work is about ill health verses well health, demonstrating the divide that needs to be addressed. Is it possible to meet in the middle without sacrifice?
Exhibited at Sarjeant Gallery (2020 Pattillo Whanganui Arts Review).
Weapon People series - 'Little Artist', June 2020 (Canvas on frame, acrylic paint), 405mm x 605mm
My artist niece, 9 year old Te Ata Mahina collaborated with me on this one. Her input helped make this work youth like, fun and loving.
A reminder that our tamariki/children require guidance and support to be future achievers. Without well adults or well older people in their lives to guide them toward healthy enjoyable lives, they will feel left out and stuck or lost. #goodbyecrankyoldways #signofthetimes #luckyforsome #notluckyforothers #highlightingfacts
The progressive world unfortunately does not always account for slow learners to be high achieving and often these people are from minority groups. In NZ, our Maori population, our tangata whenua are among some of the worst off.

Panel cut-outs - 'Waiora', September 2023 (Acrylic & enamel gloss on recycled cupboard door), 2X PANELS 910mm x 330mm
Idea appeared after feeling pōuri about our precious resource/tāonga being in danger of poisoning. Government are primarily responsible but the fundamental responsibility actively stems from the globalization happening of all living creatures and things (Ref. Living things, lines & curves art series) - well that is what it is looking like without having any real proof. Who is really in charge here? ... or more importantly should we ask who is taking care of things? Keep fighting the good fight. Kia tau te rangamārie. How are we protecting the Waiora? #Māori #Adapt

Weapon People series - 'Runga', 2020 (Canvas frame, acrylic), 560mm x 710mm
Feeling fearful from first hearing about covid19, I got to thinking, if something as globally threatening as covid 19 could effect human nature, what would it feel like for the Patu Figures. They are re-active characters that were molded from the very shape of a weapon - the patu - all action. My mind bogled a bit. Let the all action picture speak for itself. #intuitiveagain Exhibited at the 2021 Pattillo Whanganui Arts Review.

Stylized Hour Glass Black Panel series - 'Whakamaharatanga', Sept 2022 (mixed media), 600mm x 480mm
To remember past events that have affected and trauma'd our whakapapa/family historys and moving forward. The massive Kauri tree symbolises essence. The figure watering the Kauri is about healing, responsibility, care etc. Rekohu/Wharekauri/Chathams is there. Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua, ‘Looking backwards towards the future’.
'Legacy', 2022 (Acrylic on canvas frame), 600mm x 830mm
This canvas lives in a recycled rimu, floating frame - made by me.
LEGACY: They'll do what SHE did and what SHE didn't do, I will. I'd like to think loved ones will expand on things they learned or liked about from people who are important to them. I think leaving an effective legacy or your foot print is very telling for the important times to come and the people who may need to remember you when the important times come around.

'Be like US', September 2023 (Acrylic on quick carved mdf board), 920mm x 520mm
The carved mdf reminds me of the various wind currents. Both the taniwhā and the buddha are beliefs within each respected cultures. Colonization is in there along with the green guiding mystics.
'Runga, Raro (Above & Below)', September 2023 (Acrylic on quick carved mdf board), 570mm x 490mm
